To end the Maia - North of Portugal - work journey, I bring you a vlog of my day off. On my last day off there, I finally decided to explore, again, Porto. I went by myself since my friends were working or went south to see there family. It was definitely an adventure that I don't regret at all of going alone.

To be honest, the whole past month was such a great experience to find my true self and actually feel comfortable and confident on my own (body).

It's a normal video, fast-paced, that just shows a basic day of someone going out and being at peace in a big city alone.

Para acabar esta jornada de trabalho na Maia - no norte de Portugal - trago-vos um vlog de uma das minhas folgas. Na minha última folga eu finalmente decidi ir explorar, outra vez, o Porto. Fui sozinha, uma vez que os meus amigos estavam ou a trabalhar ou foram ver a família. Foi definitivamente uma aventura da qual não me arrependo nada de ter ido sozinha.

Para ser sincera, todo este mês foi uma grande experiência de me reencontrar e sentir confortável e confiante no meu corpo.

É um vídeo normal, passo rápido, que mostra um dia simples de alguém que foi passear e esteve em paz numa grande cidade sozinha.

Last post, I showed you, through a vlog, how my mornings normally are. This time I decided to present you my night routine. Since it's not that long and very calm and peaceful, I thought that a video was not needed, however you have here some illustrating photos and a recommend lofi song to listen to while reading it (Music by .irg - satisfy (feat. Also, I’m not mentioning hours because it changes accordingly to what shift I’m doing. For example, when I’m doing the morning shift, I need to wake up at 3:30a.m so I go to bed at 9p.m.

Na última postagem, eu mostrei-vos, por um vlog, como são as minhas manhãs. Desta vez, decidi apresentar-vos a minha rotina da noite. Uma vez que não é longa e bastante calma e relaxante, eu achei que não era necessário vídeo. E eu também não estou a mencionar horas porque elas mudam consoante o turno que estou a fazer. Por exemplo, quando faço o turno da manhã, eu tenho de acordar às 3:30, devido a isso vou para a cama às 21h.

After working out and having dinner, I normally like to do something productive, like work on the blog or work/school related stuff. Just something important that needs to be done as quickly as possible. I feel that if I leave it for longer I won't have energy to do it.

I stay doing that just for as long as I can be focus. Since it’s already late, I can’t stay doing something for long. It's just to end the day with a bit of that productive feeling, that we did something on our to do list.

Depois de fazer exercício físico e de jantar, eu normalmente gosto de fazer algo produtivo, como trabalhar no blogue ou em algo da escola/trabalho. Em coisas importantes que precisam de ser feitas para ontem. Eu sinto que se não fizer logo, já não vou ter energia para isso mais tarde.

Eu fico em modo trabalho durante o tempo que conseguir estar focada. Uma vez que já é tarde, não fico muito tempo. É só para acabar o dia com o sentimento de produtividade, que fizemos algo que estava na nossa to-do list.

Next, to unwind from the work and the previous projects, I like to relax to one of my hobbies. What I started doing recently is while watching a korean drama, youtube or just TV, I like to be drinking tea (you know, this cold weather asks for warm calming drinks). It's a great way to start calming your system and make youserlf a bit sleepy.

De seguida, para relaxar do trabalho e dos projetos anteriores, eu gosto de fazer um dos meus hobbies. O que comecei a fazer recentemente é beber chá enquanto vejo um drama coreano, youtube ou apenas TV (sabem, este tempo frio pede bebidas quentes e calmantes). É uma boa forma de começar a acalmar o nosso sistema e tornar-nos mais ensonados.

After that, an episode or around an hour, I go do my skincare routine. Even though it doesn't take long, I don't like to rush things up. Specially because sometimes I'm so sleepy that I don't even enjoy that part of the day. Therefore, I like to do it early so that doesn't happen. Right before going to bed I also write on my agenda what I need to do on the next day

Depois disso, de um episódio ou aproximadamente uma hora, eu vou fazer a minha rotina de pele. Mesmo não demorando muito, eu não gosto de apressar as coisas. Especialmente porque às vezes estou tão cansada que nem aproveito este momento do dia. Devido a isso, eu gosto de começar cedo para que não aconteça. Mesmo antes de me deitar, eu escrevo na minha agenda o que preciso de fazer no dia seguinte.

Finally, now that I'm not full from the dinner, I go to bed. I actually am lucky enough to say that I fall asleep rather quickly, in 5 minutes, but I do scroll through my phone, not for long, just to feel updated about what's going on around the world and on my friends' lifes.

Finalmente, agora que já não estou tão cheia do jantar, vou para a cama. Eu por acaso sou sortuda o suficiente para dizer que me deixo dormir rápido, em 5 minutos, mas mesmo assim gosto de estar no telemóvel, não por muito tempo, para me sentir a par das coisas do mundo e da vida dos meus amigos.

If you read the previous post, you know now that I’m not at home. If you didn’t read, I’m, at the moment, in Maia - in the North of Portugal - because of work, and for that I am all alone. Since that happened, I thought that recording my daily life would be a nice thing.

This week I’m currently doing the night shift: I begin at 2p.m and finish at 11p.m. Therefore, I thought it would be interesting for you to know what I do in the morning. With that said, here it is my vlog.

Note: this was shot in two days, but it doesn't matter because my routine was the same.

Se leram o meu post anterior, sabem que eu agora não estou em casa. Se não leram, eu estou, de momento, na Maia - no norte de Portugal - por causa de trabalho, e por isso estou sozinha. Desde que isso aconteceu, eu pensei que gravar o meu dia-a-dia seria uma coisa boa.

Esta semana, eu estou a fazer o turno da noite: começo às 14h e acabo às 23h. Assim sendo, eu achei que seria interessante mostrar-vos a minha rotina da manhã. Com isto dito, aqui fica o meu vlog.

Nota: isto foi gravado em dois dias, mas não interessa muito, porque a minha rotina é a mesma.

 For some it is an act of freedom, for others an act of cowardice, even for someone is just another adventure of their life, however, for me, it’s all of that and more. I feel free, because I’m finally testing my independence, I’m being a bit of a coward, because it does feel like running away from some problems and negative emotions and it’s definitely an adventure, because I have never done anything like it. But above all that, I see this as an act of bravery. Because to be able to step inside that train, for whatever reason, leaving your friends and family members for one month, sit down all by yourself, requires you to be brave.

Its 7:30a.m when I wake up and know for certain that I’m leaving that day. The suitcase is almost done packing, the only things left are the makeup and skincare bag. My computer backpack is already at the door, ready to go. 

The mood in the house is substantially better, as we all trying to see the positive sides of this travel. Honestly, it’s all good things expect the major one of having to leave my mom and sister for one month (more like two weeks, because I can visit them mid-way).

I knew I had to go to Porto for work 5 days before the trip, so the preparation, not only physical but also emotionally, had to be done in a rush, which for a first time is definitely not ideal. The previous days were one of the hardest for me in terms of feelings. I was constantly in an internal fight between my own desire and others’ feelings. Do I go and leave all these people sad, or do I put this moment on hold and if it’s meant to happen it will appear again?

But two things I learn: your feelings are first and we should follow what our instinct tells us; second, whatever the decision is, leave no regrets behind. My dad told me this last one, when I ask him if I should really go travel alone, “whatever decision you make, if you chose to leave or stay, don’t ever think about that again, what is done is done”.

And that’s what I tried to do. I made my decision and even through a lot of tears and fake smiles I took it until the end.

Thereby, here I am, on the platform of Lisboa-Oriente waiting for the train to arrive. We do a lot of small talk to lighten the mood, but it’s obvious for everyone what is going to happen in a few minutes. I’m supposed to leave at 10:09a.m, yet, as always it’s late so I only see the alpha arriving at 10:20.

We all talk about saying goodbye and how hard it is. And I’m definitely not discarding it. Kiss goodbye my mom and sister at the platform knowing that I will only see them in two weeks, and knowing too how sad my sister it’s very hard. But I finally learnt that there is another goodbye that it is so much harder.

The moment that you sit down and look out the window to see them two standing there, at first is all smiles and giggles, because it’s becoming reality, however the second you start waving your hand the emotions become harder to handle, and it only get worse by the start of the movement of the train. That’s when I really felt what is saying goodbye.

After half an hour I’m calmer and I can finally acknowledge that I’m in first class (comfort) in the sit number 62 with a window that gives me a magical view of all the green and city landscapes. Plus, it’s a beautiful day outside so the sunshine is hitting right in face, which feels nice.

The train ride, overall, is very peaceful. I won’t hide the fact that through the whole 3 hours I was feeling anxious and nervous. Yes, I’m here, but what’s going to happen next from here on now it’s going to be all new, and I’m on my own.

Even the ride itself was new for me, because I had never travel in an Alpha train. It was my first time knowing that it can travel 220km/h, which is insane. I also learnt that the Alpha 182, proceeding Faro, after Lisbon only stops 4 more times: Coimbra-B, Aveiro, Gaia, and the last stop Porto-Campanhã, my stop.

During the almost 3 hours I tried to focus on doing some work, but with the turbulence of feelings I just couldn’t so I stayed most of the time looking out, talking to friends and family and sometimes watching youtube videos, because the train has wifi, not the best, but good enough.

Even though I said it was a calm ride, there was a peculiar moment. And as strange as it is to say, it was in the train bathroom, all by myself. 

Have you ever went to the WC in an airplane? Going to one in an Alpha train has nothing to do with it, if you are like me and thought so. In the airplane is so much stable and bigger.

The bathroom in train was so small, that I barely could turn in there, and it shakes so much and it becomes a bit uncomfortable to do your necessities. To add to that, putting your clothes back on, is a whole another challenge, button up being the final boss. And not only that experience is one of its own, they decide to make it more difficult by not having water to wash your hands, being the complete opposite of the flush toilet that it is so powerful that wet the cover. The positive aspect was that I could describe it as clean.

After small moments like this, some running down tears, two or three videos and 50+ songs, I’m finally at my destination. It’s a new city, with new people and adventures, which, nonetheless, feels familiar because we share one important thing, the language.

The final stage of today is waiting for my Uber to arrive, a mirror image of me on the train platform. The only difference is that I’m alone now. “I just need to be brave”, I repeat to myself.

Para alguns é um ato de liberdade, para outros um ato de cobardia, e para algumas pessoas até é apenas mais outra aventura na sua vida, porém, para mim, e tudo isso e mais. Eu sinto-me livre, pela primeira vez irei testar a minha independência que tanto falo; estou a ser um pouco cobarde, porque é como se estivesse a fugir de alguns problemas e energias negativas; e definitivamente é uma aventura, visto que eu nunca fiz nada assim. Mas acima de tudo, eu vejo isto como um ato de bravura. Pois ter a coragem de pôr um pé dentro do comboio, seja por que razão for, e deixar os amigos e a família para trás durante um mês e sentarmo-nos sozinhos, requer coragem.

São 7:30 quando acordo e sei agora com certezas de que irei embora hoje. A mala está quase pronta, as únicas coisas que faltam é a bolsa da maquilhagem e dos produtos de pele. A mochila do computador já está à porta, pronta para ir.

O humor da casa está substancialmente melhor, sendo que estamos todos a tentar ver o lado positivo desta viagem. Honestamente, é tudo coisas boas, expeto o principal fator de ter que deixar a minha mãe e irmã durante um mês (é mais duas semanas, pois posso-as visitar a meio).

Eu soube que teria de viajar para o Porto 5 dias antes, por isso a preparação, física e emocional, foi feita um pouco à pressa, o que não é ideal para a primeira vez. Os dias anteriores foram uns dos mais difíceis em termos das minhas emoções. Estava constantemente numa luta interna entre o meu desejo e os sentimentos dos outros. Será que vou e deixo as pessoas tristes, ou ponho isto de parte e se for para acontecer, a oportunidade surgirá outra vez?

Mas duas coisas aprendi: primeiro, os nossos sentimentos estão em primeiro e devemos seguir os nossos instintos; segundo, qualquer que seja decisão, não ficar com arrependimentos. O meu pai disse-me esta última, quando lhe perguntei se deveria realmente viajar sozinha, "qualquer que seja a decisão que fizeres, se escolheres ir ao ficar, nunca mais penses no assunto, o que está decidido está decidido".

E foi isso que tentei fazer. Tomei uma decisão e mesmo por lágrimas e sorrisos falsos, fui com ela até ao fim.

Assim, aqui estou eu, na plataforma de Lisboa-Oriente à espera do comboio chegar. Fazemos conversas banais para alegrar o humor, mas é óbvio para todos os que irá acontecer dentro de minutos. Era suposto partir às 10:09, contudo, porque está sempre atrasado, só chega às 10:20.

Todos falamos sobre dizer adeus e o quão difícil é. E não estou claramente a descreditar isso. Dar o último beijo à minha mãe e irmã na plataforma a saber que só o voltaria a fazer em duas semanas, e também sabendo como a minha irmã estava triste, foi bastante doloroso. Mas finalmente aprendi que existe outro adeus muito mais custoso.

O momento em que nos sentamos no nosso lugar e olhamos pela janela para vê-las lá, primeiramente é só sorrisos e risinhos nervosos, porque vai mesmo acontecer. No entanto, no segundo que levanto a mão para acenar, todas as emoções são demasiadas para conter, e só vai ficando pior com o começar do movimento do comboio. Foi aí que realmente senti o que dizer adeus quer dizer.

 Depois de meia hora, estou mais calma e consigo finalmente absorver o facto de estar em primeira classe (conforto) no lugar número 62 com uma janela que me dá uma vista mágica para as paisagens verdes e citadinas. Para mais, o dia está lindo lá fora, e por isso o sol bate-me na cara, o que sabe muito bem.

A viagem de comboio, no geral, é calma. Não vou esquecer o facto de que durante as três horas eu senti-me ansiosa e nervosa. Sim, estou aqui, mas o que irei acontecer deste momento em frente vai ser tudo novo, estou por minha conta.

Até a viagem em si foi novidade para mim, uma vez que nunca tinha viajado no comboio Alpha. Foi a primeira vez que soube que pode chegar aos 220km/h, o que é louco. Aprendi também que o Alpha 182, procedente de Faro, depois de Lisboa apenas para mais 4 vezes: Coimbra-B, Aveiro, Gaia e a última Porto-Campanhã, a minha paragem.

Durante estas três horas, ainda tentei focar-me em trabalho, mas com toda esta turbulência de emoções, eu apenas não conseguia. Por isso fiquei a olhar lá para fora, a falar com amigos e família e por vezes a ver videos no youtube. Sim, porque o comboio tem internet, não a melhor, mas suficientemente boa.

Mesmo eu dizendo que foi uma viagem calma, houve um momento peculiar. E por mais estranho que isto soe, aconteceu na casa de banho, completamente sozinha.

Já estiveram num WC de um avião? Ir a um no comboio Alpha não tem nada a ver, se são como eu e pensaram que seria. Num avião é muito mais estável e grande.

A casa de banho no comboio é incrivelmente pequena que eu mal me consigo virar e abana tanto que chega a ser desconfortável para fazer as necessidades. A juntar a isto, voltar a por a roupa, é tudo um outro desafio, sendo abotoar as calças o último boss. E não só toda a experiência é única. como decidiram dificultar não tendo água na torneira para lavar as mãos, sendo o completo oposto do autoclismo que é tão potente que molhou a tampa toda. O aspeto positivo é que consigo descrever como limpa.

Depois de pequenos momentos como este, de algumas lágrimas, dois ou três vídeos e 50+ músicas, finalmente chego ao meu destino. Uma nova cidade, com novas pessoas e aventuras, que, no entanto, é-me familiar pois partilhamos uma coisa muito importante, a língua.

O último capítulo deste dia é esperar que o Uber chegue, uma imagem espelhada de mim na plataforma do comboio. A única diferença sendo que eu agora estou sozinha. "Só preciso de ser corajosa", repito para mim mesma.

 If you follow me on instagram, you have probably seen that I took a trip to the North, by myself, because of a job. The whole time is actually one month, but since I'm going home once on the weekend, halfway, and also because majority of my time I'm wearing the uniforme, I did not bring a lot of clothes. However, the other sections are actually has important and sometimes the most difficult to remember, so I'm here to help you.

Se me seguem no instagram, provavelmente já viram que eu recentemente viajei sozinha para o Norte por causa de trabalho. O tempo que estarei é um mês, mas uma vez que irei a casa depois de duas semanas, a meio, e porque na maioria do tempo irei estar a usar o uniforme, eu não trouxe assim tanta roupa. Contudo, as outras secções são também muito importantes, e por vezes ainda mais difíceis de lembrar, por isso estou aqui para ajudar.

I divided my checklist by 11 groups: underwear, activewear, clothes, shoes, accessories, makeup, skincare, hygiene, medications, miscellaneous and essentials.

I know it’s a lot of groups, but I just feel that like this everything is a lot more organize. For reference I brought with me a medium suitcase and a backpack for the electronics and materials. And also my normal day-to-day tote bag (essentials).

And here you have my list.

Eu dividi a minha lista em 11 grupos: roupa interior, roupa de exercício, roupa, sapatos, acessórios, maquilhagem, produtos de pele, higiene, medicação, diversos e essenciais.

Eu sei que são bastantes grupos, mas eu sinto que assim está tudo mais organizado. Para referência eu trouxe uma mala de viagem média e uma mochila com os eletrónicos e alguns materiais. E também a minha mala de pano diária (os essenciais).

E aqui fica a minha lista.

Again, don't forget that it's, at the moment of writing, fall coming to winter, so a lot of the clothing I mention are warm pieces. And in the North of Portugal is even colder so. I forgot to mention on my list, but I also brought a rain jacket - my only coat, because it is big, warm and perfect for the rain.

Outra vez, não se esqueçam que, no momento da escrita, é outono a chegar o inverno, por isso as roupas que eu menciono são peças quentes. E no norte de Portugal é ainda mais frio, por isso. Eu esqueci-me de mencionar na minha lista, mas eu também levei um casaco para a chuva (ensebado), pois é grande, quente e perfeito para a chuva.

Out of all the meals of the day, the breakfast it's definitely the one I value the most. I just feel like it's a very peaceful time. Great to eat slowly, enjoy the moment - and the food - and honestly, breakfast foods are the most delicious. Doesn't compare.

Therefore, I decided to show you what I eat through out the days of the week. 5 ideas for 5 week days. They are all different and the difficulty also differs. Note that with these meals, I always drink a cup of coffee.

De todas as refeições do dia, o pequeno-almoço é definitivamente aquela que eu mais valorizo. Eu sinto que é a hora mais calma. Perfeito para comer calmamente, aproveitar o momento - e a comida - e honestamente, as comidas do pequeno-almoço são as mais deliciosas. Nem se comparam.

Por isso, decidi mostrar o que é que eu como durante os meus dias úteis. 5 ideias para cinco dias de trabalho. São todas diferentes e a dificuldade também diverge. Notem que eu em todas as ideias eu bebo uma caneca de café.

Toast w/ butter

To start the week, and it's usually the hardest day, I have a very easy recipe, if I can call that even. It's simply two slices of toasted bread with some butter. That's it. In my case, because I consider my lifestyle healthy - when I can I go for dairy-free, gluten-free and zero added sugar ingredients - I use the almond butter from Yogan Creamery and the bread it's gluten-free. For the last one it can be from several places: Continente, Celeiro, Mercadona, Schär...

Torradas

Para começar a semana, e usualmente é o dia mais difícil, eu tenho uma receita fácil, se posso até chamar disso. É simplesmente duas fatias de pão torradas com manteiga. Só isso. No meu caso, porque eu considero que tenho um estilo de vida saudável - quando posso uso produtos sem lactose, glúten e com zero açúcares adicionados - eu uso manteiga de amêndoa da Yogan Creamery e o pão é sem glúten. Este último vai variando de sítio: Continente, Celeiro, Mercadona, Schär...

Avocado Bagel

Rather than be an avocado toast, which you can switch to, I use a bagel. In this case, it's not gluten-free, they are from Aldi or Bimbo, because I can't find any. Then I smash half an avocado season it with pepper, salt and lemon or lime, and finally I top it with a sunny side up egg, and leave the middle (orange part) runny.

Bagel com Abacate

Em vez de ser abacate numa torrada, mas podem mudar, eu uso bagels. Neste caso não é sem glúten, são do Aldi ou da Bimbo, porque ainda não encontrei. Depois esmago metade de um abacate, tempero com pimenta, sal e limão ou lima, e finalizo com um ovo estrelado, deixando a gema líquida.

Waffles

This is probably the most difficult recipe here. It's not that hard but it has more steps. Basically what I use are two different flours, almond and spelt, one egg, vanilla extract, cinnamon, plant-base milk, whatever it's open at the time, and a pinch of salt. 

Advice, to make sure that your waffles turn out great, be sure to have a good waffle maker.

Waffles

Esta é provavelmente a mais difícil. Não é muito, apenas mais trabalhosa. Basicamente o que uso é duas farinhas diferentes, amêndoa e espelta, um ovo, extrato de baunilha, canela, leite à base de plantas, o que estiver aberto na altura, e uma pitada de sal.

Conselho, para que as waffles fiquem boas, tenham uma boa máquina de waffles.

Sandwich toast

It's literally two slices of bread, gluten-free, with vegetarian ham and cheese and plant-base butter, the one I mentioned earlier. The ham I use is from Nobre Vegalia with the mediterranean herbs and the cheese is coconut oil based and it is from Violife. Both you can find on Continente.

After making the sandwich, I bring all of it to the sandwich toaster.

Tosta Mista Vegetariana

É literalmente duas fatias de pão sem glúten com fiambre e queijo vegetariano e a manteiga que falei acima. O fiambre é da Nobre Vegalia com ervas mediterrâneas e o queijo é à base de óleo de côco e é da marca Violife. Ambos estão disponíveis no Continente.

Depois de fazer a sanduíche, levo à tostadeira.

French toast

I know, it's a lot of toasts, but really enjoy fried bread, I don't know. 

This is a more healthy version of the typical french toast from Christmas. Again I used the gluten-free bread (here I prefer the one from Mercadona), I soak it in one egg and one yolk mixed - that have a pinch of salt - and then I take it to the pan where I have coconut oil heating so I can fry the bread soaked in egg. I finalize with cinnamon and a drizzle of honey or maple syrup.

Fatias d'Ovo

Eu sei que é muito pão, mas gosto mesmo muito de pão frito, não sei.

Esta é uma versão mais saudável das típicas rabanadas do Natal. Outra vez, uso o pão sem glúten (aqui prefiro da Mercadona), embebo num ovo batido mais uma gema - que tem uma pitada de sal - e levo a uma frigideira, onde o óleo de côco esteve a aquecer para eu poder fritar o pão embebido. Finalizo com canela e um pouco de mel ou xarope de bordo.

 It's almost unbelievable to think that we are almost at the end of this chronological fashion journey. To think that we are now at, you may consider, modern times. Even though fashion changed so much in the past 10 years. 

I wasn't yet in my teens in 2010 - I was in my gothic era - so I wasn't very aware of the trends at that time. And plus, I wasn't into clothes and fashion yet. 

But from my research and from my talks with other people, I would say what characterize the 2010s were the hipster and alternative fashion. Pieces that marked were the coloured jeans, t-shirt with long sleeves, shorts with tights, all simples pieces.

É quase inacreditável pensar que já estamos no fim desta jornada cronológica de moda. Pensar que nós estamos agora, poderemos considerar, nos tempos modernos. Mesmo que a moda já tenha mudado bastante nos últimos 10 anos.

Eu ainda não podia dizer que era jovem em 2010 - estava na minha época gótica - por isso também não estava muito ciente das modas da altura. E para mais, ainda não tinha o meu gosto por roupa e moda.

Mas pela minha pesquisa e pelas conversas com outras pessoas, eu diria que os anos 2010 são caracterizados pela moda hipster e alternativa. Peças que marcaram foram as calças de ganga de cor, t-shirt com manga comprida, calções com collants, tudo peças simples.

This look brings so many memories, it's incredible. Only after mid 2010s is that I started wearing stuff like that. Until then I was a big fan of jeans with colour, specially red, green and blue.

But here I give you a generalization of the fashion of that time. Which is a mixture of hipster with grunge pieces. The denim shorts with black tights, in the winter time, were a big trend. Then we had the band tees, coming back from the 90s grunge, and the long sleeves underneath. I decided to insert another trend which was the stripes.

Este visual traz-me tantas memórias, é incrível. Apenas depois dos meados dos anos 2010 é que eu comecei a vestir-me assim. Até lá, eu era uma grande fã de calças de ganga de cor, especialmente vermelho, verde e azul.

Mas aqui eu dou-vos uma generalização da moda daquele tempo. Que é uma mistura de hipster com peças grunge. Os calções de ganga com collants pretas era a combinação mais escolhida no inverno. Depois, nós temos a t-shirt de banda, que voltaram dos anos 90, e as mangas compridas por baixo. Eu decidi inserir outra moda que era as riscas.

Spooky post incoming...

I know it's kind of pointless talking about my halloween night (a bit of day too), because you can't take anything from it now. However, you can do take notes for the next years to come. Since you are going to find here, yes, a recap of my day so I can reminisce later on, but also some snack ideas, what acessories to have on your spooky night and also a costume idea.

This year I decorated the house, mostly my bedroom, a bit late, 3 days before the Halloween day, but usually is a week before. The decor is from various places, but you can find really good ones and the majority of mine at Flying Tiger, however the supermarkets have some hidden gems too, as well as party stores. At the same time that I start decorating the rooms, I also start using my halloween mug from Disneyland Paris.

Post assustador chegando...

Eu sei que parece que não faz sentido falar agora da noite de Halloween (um pouco do dia também), porque não vão tirar nada daqui. Porém, podem sim tirar algumas notas para o próximo ano. Sendo que vão encontrar aqui, sim, um recapitular do meu dia para que eu possa relembrar mais tarde, mas também ideias de petiscos, que acessórios ter na vossa noite e ideia de máscara.

Este ano eu decorei a minha casa, mais o meu quarto, um pouco tarde, 3 dias antes do dia de Halloween, mas costuma ser uma semana antes. As decorações vêm de vários sítios, mas as melhores e a maioria das minhas são da Flying Tiger, no entanto os supermercados costumam ter alguma gemas, tal como as lojas de festas. Ao mesmo tempo que decoro os quartos, também começo a usar a minha caneca de halloween da Disneyland Paris.

I start the 31st of october right when I wake up. 

I like to put one some cozy and dark at-home pieces. Since it's november and it is supposed to be cold I use my Chucky sweater, but because this year we had a radiant sun I only wore some dark pieces. After, I make breakfast - some french toast and coffee - and use, of course, my orange pumpkin disney mug.

At midday, not only I start preparing lunch, which was black spaghetti with mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and a squeeze of lemon, but I start decorating the table - it's just like Christmas. We put on some candles, plates with cookies, treats, salty snacks, etc, all halloween themed. Even the plates where the food is.

Until later in the afternoon is a pretty relax day. Just sitting on the sofa, with a big fluffly blanket, watching some horror shows. For me, it was the tv show Chucky. I already wanted to watch it, so now it was the perfect time. I would've stayed like that until 6p.m., but I had to do some really last minute shopping for my duo costume *spoiler alert, it was the ghost face mask*.

Eu começo o 31 de outubro assim que acordo.

Gosto logo de escolher umas peças mais escuras para andar por casa. Uma vez que é novembro e é suposto estar frio, eu uso a minha blusa do Chucky, mas sendo que este ano estava um sol radiante apenas vesti umas peças pretas. Depois, vou fazer o pequeno-almoço - fatias d'ovo e café - e uso, claro, a minha caneca laranja em forma de abóbora da disney.

Ao meio-dia, não só começo a fazer o almoço, que foi esparguete preta com cogumelos, tomates cherry e limão, mas também a decorar a mesa - como se fosse o Natal. Pomos algumas velas, os pratos com as bolachas, petiscos, batatas, etc, tudo com a temática de Dia das Bruxas. Até os pratos.

Até mais tarde, o dia é relaxado. Apenas sentada no sofá, com uma manta fofa gorda, a ver series de terror. Para mim, foi a série do Chucky. Já queria ver a algum tempo, e esta época é a ideal para o fazer. Eu ficaria assim até às seis da tarde, se não fosse o caso de ter de fazer compras de mesmo último minuto para o meu disfarce a dois *alerta de spoiler, foi a máscara do ghost face*.

Even though at lunch my table is already pretty spooky, it's at night hours that the fun begins. At 7p.m. we start preparing ourselves: putting on the clothes, do the hair and makeup, and do the fake blood. This year me and my sister did a couple costume and we wore Tara and Sam from the new Scream movie.

While my sister is doing the fake blood, I'm composing the dinner table. Setting all the sweets, drinks, snacks, and of course the main meal, which was a burger in black bread with ghost/pumpkin shape potatoes. For the drink, it has to be red, so for me it was red wine and for my sister frizzy red wine.

In terms of what foods we get, it really depends on the year. Last year we baked, this year, since we found so many cool foods at the stores we didn't do any cooking. For this year we had some halloween themed oreos, cookies with chocolate, butter cookies, chocolate, reese's cups, marshmallow cakes, chips, ice cream, etc.

Mesmo que a minha mesa ao almoço já esteja bastante assustadora, é nas horas da noite que a diversão começa. Por volta das sete da noite, começamos a disfarçar-nos. Este ano eu e a minha irmã fizemos um disfarce em conjunto e eu fui a Tara e a minha irmã a Sam do novo filme do Scream. 

Começámos a vestir-nos, a fazer o penteado e a maquilhagem e o sangue falso. Enquanto a minha irmã faz este último, eu componho a mesa do jantar. Com os doces, as bebidas, os petiscos e claro a refeição principal, que foi hamburger em pão preto com batatas em forma de fantasmas/abóboras. Para beber, tem de ser vermelho, por isso para mim foi vinho tinto e para a minha irmã vinho tinto frisante.

Em termos da comida que temos, depende de cada ano. O ano passado nós cozinhámos, este ano, que as lojas tinham comidas muito fixes, acabámos por não fazer nada. Este ano tínhamos tudo na temática de halloween, oreos, bolachas com chocolate, bolachas de manteiga, chocolate, reese's cups, bombocas, batatas fritas, gelado, entre outros.

We did take a lot of photos prior to the dinner, but it wasn't many because the food was already getting cold. We did everything a bit late, not gonna lie. After dinner we relaxed a bit, posting on instagram, watching youtube, just chilling. Later at night, around almost midnight we started our horror movies marathon. And for this year me and my sister chose the Fear Street franchise/trilogy. We watched 2 that night until 5a.m. and the last one on the next morning.

Nós tirámos bastante fotos antes do jantar, mas não foram muitas porque a comida já estava a ficar fria. Fizemos tudo um pouco tarde, não vou mentir. Depois do jantar relaxámos um pouco, a postar no instagram, a ver vídeos no youtube, "just chilling". Já perto da meia-noite, a nossa maratona de filmes de terror começou. E este ano, eu e a minha irmã escolhemos a saga/trilogia do Fear Street. Vimos 2 nessa noite até às 5 da manhã e o último na manhã seguinte.

As you may know by now, I'm a big fan of korean dramas, and those tv shows are really starting to get popular. To not give the same cliché recommendations - english speaking horror movies - I decided to suggest you some really good horror k-dramas, some that I honestly enjoyed and was a bit scared. 

I want to say that there are a few horror dramas that are nonetheless good, as in Hotel del Luna and maybe you would fancy Sweet Home and All of Us are Dead, however they are just not my top choices. But I leave the tittles here just in case. And obviously I recommend Squid Game, but that is too obvious by now.

Como já devem saber, eu só uma grande fã de dramas sul coreanos, e essas séries estão realmente a ficar populares. Para não dar as mesmas cliché recomendações - filmes de terror ingleses - decidi sugerir alguns bons k-dramas de terror, alguns que gostei muito e que me assustaram.

Eu quero dizer que existem alguns k-dramas de terror que são bonzinhos, como Hotel del Luna e talvez gostem de Sweet Home e All of Us are Dead, no entanto eles não são as minhas primeiras escolhas. Mas deixo aqui os títulos só no caso. E obviamente que recomendo Squid Game, mas esse já é demasiado óbvio.

Kingdom - Zombie Horror

The south korean drama is from 2019 and has, at the moment of writting, 2 seasons, each with 6 episodes with a duration around 1 hour per episode. You can find it on Netflix.

It's an historic piece that blends political issues with zombies. The story follows the Crown Prince in the attempts to find the mysterious illness affecting the King. While doing so he finds himself in the middle of a deadly epidemic spreading through all the kingdom.

If you are into zombies, it's an easy watch. Not only do they give a new and an interesting take on the traditional creature, but it also has a lot of action scenes. It's not the most scary of this dramas, however the entertaining factor it's high up.

Este drama sul coreano é de 2019 e tem, no momento da escrita, duas temporadas, cada com 6 episódios com uma duração de mais ou menos 1 hora. Encontram na Netflix.

É uma peça histórica que mistura questões políticas com zombies. A história segue o príncipe herdeiro na tentativa de encontrar que doença misteriosa está a afetar o Rei. Enquanto o faz, vê-se no meio de uma epidemia mortal que se está a espalhar por todo o reino.

Se gostam de zombies, é um drama de fácil visionamento. Não só nos dão uma nova e interessante versão da criatura tradicional, como também tem muitas cenas de ação. Não é das mais assustadoras, contudo o fator entretenimento está bem lá em cima.

Strangers from Hell - Psychological Horror

From 2019, as well, it has one and only season with 16 episodes that also have 1 hour length each episode. As of now, it's available on Netflix.

This k-drama is not a very disturbing show, but it does put your little hairs up. Described as a psychological thriller it tells the story of a young man that moves into a cheap appartment in Seoul after landing an internship. Even though he doesn't like the quality of the place nor the residents, he tolerates it since he's low on money. However, strange things start happening on the building.

It's personally one of my favourites, since it's something I was definitely not used to see in the south korean television industry. It gives me all the chills and puts all the scary things on my imagination rather than in the screen.

De 2019 também, tem uma e única temporada com 16 episódios que têm uma duração média de 1 hora cada um. Atualmente, está disponível na Netflix.

Este k-drama não é perturbado, mas irá por os cabelinhos no ar. Descrita com um thriller psicológico, conta a história de um jovem que se muda para um apartamento barato em Seul depois de conseguir um estágio. Mesmo não gostando da qualidade do quarto nem dos seus vizinhos, ele tolera devido a ter pouco dinheiro. Contudo, coisas estranhas começam a acontecer no prédio.

É pessoalmente um dos meus favoritos, visto que é algo que não é muito habitual na indústria televisiva sul coreana. Dá bastantes arrepios e põe todas as coisas assustadoras na nossa imaginação em vez de no ecrã.

Alice in Borderland - Game Horror

If you are into the game genre in horror, this serie it's definitely a must watch. And I'm pretty sure you are going to bingewatch everything in one day. It has one season, but with season 2 around the corner, with 8 episodes, each one with approximately 50 minutes. It's an Netflix show.

Unlike the other, this is a japanese drama, so expect a lot more blood and guts. Based on a manga, it shows the story of Arisu [Alice] that out of nowhere finds himself trapped in a emptied-out version of Tokyo. Along with his friends/allies, he must compete in several dangerous games in order to earned "visas" and therefore survive.

Compared to Squid Game, you will find this tv show a lot more gory and mature. Not taking out the fact that Squid Game is a very addictive and entertaining serie, Alice in Borderland takes the horror factor to another level. It's asian horror in it's best glory.

Se gostam do género "jogos" no terror, esta série é definitivamente um must. E tenho quase a certeza de que vão ver tudo de uma só vez, num só dia. Tem uma temporada, mas com a temporada 2 prestes a sair, com 8 episódios, cada um com aproximadamente 50 minutos. É uma série da Netflix.

Ao contrário dos outros, este é um drama japonês, por isso esperem muito sangue e entranhas. Baseado num mangá, mostra a história de Arisu [Alice] que de repente encontra-se preso numa versão vazia de Tóquio. Juntamente com os seus amigos/aliados, ele é obrigado a competir em diversos jogos perigosos para que ganhe "visas" e consequentemente manter-se vivo.

Comparado com o Squid Game, irão achar esta série muito mais sangrenta e madura. Não tirando do Squid Game o facto de ser super viciante e que entretém, Alice in Borderland põe o terror noutra escala. É terror asiático no seu melhor.

Goedam - Anthology Horror

Another show from Netflix, Goedam is an anthology show that counts with 8 episodes, all in one season. With a tittle that translates into "urban ghost story", each episode with less than 10 minutes - one has 15 minutes -, centers in different urban legends.

I was pretty surprised with this one. They utilize their small time very well, making it scary, interesting and not lacking story. Also I enjoyed that even though is an anthology and you can see them randomly, they do have things connecting the episodes, for example mentioning characters. Also, it does not use jumpscares to be scary, the episodes tend more for the psychological horror.

As I said, each story is based on an urban legend, usually asian - heavy on korean and japanese, but sometimes just creepy stories. From all the eight episodes, my favourite episodes are (1) Dimension, (2) Crack and (3) Birth.

Outra série da Netflix, Goedam é uma antologia que contém 8 episódios, todos numa temporada. Com um título que se traduz para "história de fantasmas urbanos", cada episódio com menos de 10 minutos - um tem 15 minutos - centra-se em várias lendas urbanas.

Fiquei bastante surpresa com esta série. Utilizaram muito bem o pouco tempo, tornando o episódio assustador, interessante e sem falta de história. Também gostei que, embora seja uma antologia e dê para ver aleatoriamente, existem coisas a conectar os episódios entre si, por exemplo, mencionando personagens. Além disso, não usa sustos para ser assustador, os episódios tendem mais para o terror psicológico.

Como eu disse, cada história é baseada numa lenda urbana, geralmente asiática - sendo mais coreana e japonesa, mas às vezes são apenas histórias assustadoras. Dos oito episódios, os meus favoritos são (1) Dimension, (2) Crack e (3) Birth.
