The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes goes back in time in terms of all of the rest of the films of the saga. And tell us the story of Coriolanus Snow and how did he become the President of the Games.

Directed by Francis Lawrence, the prequel touch on subjects like how the games began, the first game and their evolution. But primarily focus on the journey of the president of Panem, 64 years before that, and how he had to mentor Lucy Gray Bird, the female tribute from District 12, so he had a chance to a change in his life.

I can’t compare the film to the book, since I didn’t read it, consequently, don’t expect me to do comparisons.

I have to begin by saying that this prequel did not disappoint me at all. In fact, I would go further and say that it’s probably at the same level as the others films of the saga. Maybe more incline to the last ones, because of having more storyline rather than just the annual game. I say this as a compliment, because usually prequels are not that good.

Speaking of cinematography and directing, I really enjoyed the fact that they tried to keep everything cohesive and similar to the other films. And I say that in terms of colours, scenarios (even though you can see it passes in an older timeline), and narration order. In my opinion, it’s nice to not see this film dislocated from the rest.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes features Tom Blyth as young President Snow, Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Bird and Viola Davis as Dr. Volumnia Gaul (a crazy asset to the games). I have to say, this cast couldn’t have been better. The performances are just amazing and even without reading the book, I felt that at least Tom Blyth was very true to the personality of Snow on the other films. 

Also the sound and music is very present throughout all of the film, it gets borderline a musical. I was not a fan at how much singing it is involved at the beginning, but you definitely get used to it because it is important to the story. And Rachel Zegler does a really good job with her character.

After all that, even though I could say you can watch this one first, prior to the other four, there is definitely hints of the other ones and it’s nice to connect that dots.

Finally, I have to say that I for sure recommend this new Hunger Games film. There is definitely a focus on a villain in here, but I never felt a complete passion to him, which is great because we know how mean Snow is. I believe every fan is going to like the film even if it is only on a nostalgic feel. I would give The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes a 4 out of 5. I was absorbed into this world on the first second.

Oh, and don’t need to wait for the credits to roll, because there is not post-credits scene, on any occasion. That end is the end. However, I can see a next film to this one.

The Hunger Games: A Balada dos Pássaros e das Serpentes volta atrás no tempo em relação a todos os outros filmes da saga. E conta-nos a história de Coriolanus Snow e como se tornou o Presidente dos jogos. 

Realizado por Francis Lawrence, a prequela aborda assuntos como o início dos jogos, o primeiro jogo e sua evolução. Mas concentra-se principalmente na jornada do presidente da Panem, 64 anos antes, e como teve que ser o mentor de Lucy Gray Bird, a tributo feminina do Distrito 12, para que tivesse uma oportunidade de uma mudança na sua vida.

Não posso comparar o filme com o livro, pois não o li, consequentemente, não esperem que faça comparações. 

Devo começar por dizer que esta prequela não me dececionou em nada. Na verdade, eu iria mais longe e diria que provavelmente está ao mesmo nível dos demais filmes da saga. Talvez mais inclinado para os últimos, por ter mais enredo do que apenas o jogo anual. Digo isto como um elogio, porque geralmente as prequelas não são tão boas assim. 

Falando em fotografia e direção, gostei muito do facto de terem tentado manter tudo coeso e parecido com os outros filmes. Falo em termos de cores, cenários (mesmo que possam ver que se passa em uma linha do tempo mais antiga) e ordem de narração. Na minha opinião, é bom não ver este filme deslocado dos restantes.

 The Hunger Games: A Balada dos Pássaros e das Serpentes apresenta Tom Blyth como o jovem Presidente Snow, Rachel Zegler como Lucy Gray Bird e Viola Davis como Dra. Volumnia Gaul (um criador dos jogos). Devo dizer que este elenco não poderia ter sido melhor. As atuações são simplesmente incríveis e mesmo sem ler o livro, senti que pelo menos Tom Blyth foi muito fiel à personalidade de Snow nos outros filmes. 

Além disso, o som e a música estão muito presentes ao longo de todo o filme, chega a ser quase um musical. Eu não estava a gostar tanto do quanto cantar estava envolvido no início, mas depois definitivamente acostumei-me. Até porque é importante para a história. E a Rachel Zegler faz um ótimo trabalho com sua personagem. 

Depois de tudo isto, embora eu possa dizer que podem assistir este primeiro, antes dos outros quatro, definitivamente há pequenas coisas dos outros que se menciona neste e é giro conectar esses pontos. 

Por fim, dizer que com certeza recomendo este novo filme dos The Hunger Games. Sem dúvida que há um foco no vilão aqui, mas nunca senti uma paixão completa por ele, o que é ótimo porque sabemos o quão mau Snow é. Acredito que todo o fã vai gostar do filme, mesmo que seja apenas por um sentimento nostálgico. Eu daria a The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes uma nota de 4 em 5. Fui completamente absorvida por este mundo desde o primeiro segundo. 

Ah, e não precisam de esperar os créditos rolarem, porque não tem cena pós-créditos, em nenhuma ocasião. Esse fim é o fim. No entanto, consigo ver acontecer um filme depois deste.
