Don't get fooled by the tittle, I'm not saying theses books are summer ones, I'm just saying that it's books I loved, and now that it is summer and we usually have more time, you should read them.

I know that the number four seems quite random, and I was going to do five, but the last one I could see that it's not for everyone. Like, I really enjoyed it and if you like political stuff and URSS history, you may like this one, but it's for a niche. To be fair, I'm not that person, but the way it was written so cleverly that I enjoyed it. I'm talking about Animal Farm by George Orwell.

Não se enganem pelo título, eu não estou a dizer que estes livros são de verão, estou sim a dizer que são livros que adoro e agora que é verão, e usualmente temos mais tempo, vocês deviam de os ler.

Eu sei que o número quatro é um bocado estranho, e eu até ia fazer cinco, mas o último eu reconheço que não é para toda a gente. Eu realmente gostei, e se gostam de política, sátira e coisas a ver com a URSS, é possível que gostem deste - é para um nicho. Para ser sincera, eu não sou essa pessoa, mas a maneira como está escrito foi de tal forma inteligente que eu gostei bastante. Estou a falar de A Quinta dos Animais de George Orwell.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s (Boneca de Luxo) by Truman Capote

This book was seriously a surprise for me. I was not expecting much, specially because I wanted to read another from this author, but this one was so simple and at the same time so entertaining. It’s basically the point of view of the author - Truman Capote is a journalist and therefore it’s a real story - about this one mysterious rich girl, Holly Golightly, and the things happening around her. It has a bit of seduction and the feel of good girls are internally bag girls. The only flaw is that it doesn’t have a big plot twist, so it really feels just like your friend is telling you a story about one of your neighbors.

Este livro foi seriamente uma surpresa para mim. Não estava nada à espera de tanto, especialmente porque eu queria ler outro do mesmo autor, mas este foi muito simples mas cativante ao mesmo tempo. É basicamente o ponto de vista do autor - Truman Capote é um jornalista e por isso escreve sobre histórias reais - sobre esta rapariga rica misteriosa, Holly Golightly, e as coisas que acontecem à sua volta. Tem um pouco de sedução e o estereótipo de boas meninas são internamente más. A única falha é que não tem grande plot twist, por isso sente-se como se um amigo tivesse a contar uma história sobre um dos seus vizinhos.

The Picture of Dorian Gray (O Retrato de Dorian Gray) by Oscar Wilde

I don't love Oscar Wilde for some reason, but this book started very well and it was progressively getting better by each word. Without telling you too much, don’t wanna give any spoilers, it’s about a young man which beauty is beyond beautiful. The whole plot begins when a painter gets to do Dorian Gray’s portrait and he starts to get jealous of his own image because unlike him the painting doesn’t age. At same time the young man, influenced by one of his friends, is drawn into a corrupt life, pleasing his secret desires while remaining a gentleman in the eyes of the rich society.

Eu não adoro o Oscar Wilde por alguma razão, mas este livro começou muito bem e foi progressivamente ficando melhor a cada palavra. Sem dizer muito, para não vos dar nenhum spoiler, é sobre um rapaz jovem cuja beleza é mais do que bonita. O enredo começa quando um pintor, inspirado por essa beleza, faz o retrato de Dorian Gray o qual começa a sentir ciúmes do quadro porque, ao contrário da pintura, ele envelhece. Ao mesmo tempo, o jovem, influenciado por um dos seus amigos, é puxado para uma vida corrupta, agradando assim aos seus desejos mais secretos enquanto mantém a postura de gentleman aos olhos da sociedade rica.

Persuasion (Persuasão) by Jane Austen

I know the movie of this book just released, and I actually haven’t seen it, but believe me the book is very easy to read. It’s a very lightweight romantic (a bit of angst) book and to be honest quite nice for a summer read. It tells the story of  Anne Eliot, who was persuaded to break off her engagement to Frederick Wentworth when he was a naval captain with no rank or fortune. Her youthful spirit then starts to fade as well as her romantic prospects. But that changes when she meets him again and sees the possibility of a second chance.

Eu sei que o filme deste livro acabou de estrear, e eu ainda não o vi, mas acreditem em mim quando digo que o livro é muito fácil de ler. Conta a história de Anne Elliot, que foi persuadida a acabar com o seu noivado com Frederick Wentworth quando ele era um capitão de navios sem nenhum estatuto ou fortuna. O seu espírito juvenil começa a desvanecer assim como as suas esperanças de amor. Mas isso muda quando ela volta a encontrá-lo e vê a possibilidade de uma segunda oportunidade.

Ensaio sobre a Cegueira (Blindness) by José Saramago

The original book is portuguese but I’m pretty sure you can find translation because this book is so popular, the author inclusive. Just to get your hypes up, Blindness is my favourite book of all time. To be fair, it’s not the genre and type of story I go for, but the book was incredibly raw and cruel and really made think about life. The premisse of the book is that all of a sudden a man, stopped at a red sign while driving, turns blind. And as the time goes by many more cases like his start happening until mostly everyone is blind and the population now needs to learn to live in a world where everyone can’t see.

O livro original é português mas estou convicta que deve de haver várias traduções pois este livro é muito popular, o autor inclusive. Só para vos entusiasmar mais, O Ensaio sobre a Cegueira é o meu livro favorito de sempre. Para ser justa, o género e o tipo de história não é o que eu normalmente vou para, mas este livro é incrivelmente cru e cruel e fez-me mesmo pensar sobre a vida. A premissa do livro é que de um momento para outro um homem que estava parada num sinal vermelho enquanto conduzia, fica cego. E com o passar do tempo muitos mais casos como este começam a suceder até que quase toda a gente fica cega e a população é obrigada a aprender a viver num mundo em que ninguém consegue ver.
