As you may know by now, I'm a big fan of korean dramas, and those tv shows are really starting to get popular. To not give the same cliché recommendations - english speaking horror movies - I decided to suggest you some really good horror k-dramas, some that I honestly enjoyed and was a bit scared. 

I want to say that there are a few horror dramas that are nonetheless good, as in Hotel del Luna and maybe you would fancy Sweet Home and All of Us are Dead, however they are just not my top choices. But I leave the tittles here just in case. And obviously I recommend Squid Game, but that is too obvious by now.

Como já devem saber, eu só uma grande fã de dramas sul coreanos, e essas séries estão realmente a ficar populares. Para não dar as mesmas cliché recomendações - filmes de terror ingleses - decidi sugerir alguns bons k-dramas de terror, alguns que gostei muito e que me assustaram.

Eu quero dizer que existem alguns k-dramas de terror que são bonzinhos, como Hotel del Luna e talvez gostem de Sweet Home e All of Us are Dead, no entanto eles não são as minhas primeiras escolhas. Mas deixo aqui os títulos só no caso. E obviamente que recomendo Squid Game, mas esse já é demasiado óbvio.

Kingdom - Zombie Horror

The south korean drama is from 2019 and has, at the moment of writting, 2 seasons, each with 6 episodes with a duration around 1 hour per episode. You can find it on Netflix.

It's an historic piece that blends political issues with zombies. The story follows the Crown Prince in the attempts to find the mysterious illness affecting the King. While doing so he finds himself in the middle of a deadly epidemic spreading through all the kingdom.

If you are into zombies, it's an easy watch. Not only do they give a new and an interesting take on the traditional creature, but it also has a lot of action scenes. It's not the most scary of this dramas, however the entertaining factor it's high up.

Este drama sul coreano é de 2019 e tem, no momento da escrita, duas temporadas, cada com 6 episódios com uma duração de mais ou menos 1 hora. Encontram na Netflix.

É uma peça histórica que mistura questões políticas com zombies. A história segue o príncipe herdeiro na tentativa de encontrar que doença misteriosa está a afetar o Rei. Enquanto o faz, vê-se no meio de uma epidemia mortal que se está a espalhar por todo o reino.

Se gostam de zombies, é um drama de fácil visionamento. Não só nos dão uma nova e interessante versão da criatura tradicional, como também tem muitas cenas de ação. Não é das mais assustadoras, contudo o fator entretenimento está bem lá em cima.

Strangers from Hell - Psychological Horror

From 2019, as well, it has one and only season with 16 episodes that also have 1 hour length each episode. As of now, it's available on Netflix.

This k-drama is not a very disturbing show, but it does put your little hairs up. Described as a psychological thriller it tells the story of a young man that moves into a cheap appartment in Seoul after landing an internship. Even though he doesn't like the quality of the place nor the residents, he tolerates it since he's low on money. However, strange things start happening on the building.

It's personally one of my favourites, since it's something I was definitely not used to see in the south korean television industry. It gives me all the chills and puts all the scary things on my imagination rather than in the screen.

De 2019 também, tem uma e única temporada com 16 episódios que têm uma duração média de 1 hora cada um. Atualmente, está disponível na Netflix.

Este k-drama não é perturbado, mas irá por os cabelinhos no ar. Descrita com um thriller psicológico, conta a história de um jovem que se muda para um apartamento barato em Seul depois de conseguir um estágio. Mesmo não gostando da qualidade do quarto nem dos seus vizinhos, ele tolera devido a ter pouco dinheiro. Contudo, coisas estranhas começam a acontecer no prédio.

É pessoalmente um dos meus favoritos, visto que é algo que não é muito habitual na indústria televisiva sul coreana. Dá bastantes arrepios e põe todas as coisas assustadoras na nossa imaginação em vez de no ecrã.

Alice in Borderland - Game Horror

If you are into the game genre in horror, this serie it's definitely a must watch. And I'm pretty sure you are going to bingewatch everything in one day. It has one season, but with season 2 around the corner, with 8 episodes, each one with approximately 50 minutes. It's an Netflix show.

Unlike the other, this is a japanese drama, so expect a lot more blood and guts. Based on a manga, it shows the story of Arisu [Alice] that out of nowhere finds himself trapped in a emptied-out version of Tokyo. Along with his friends/allies, he must compete in several dangerous games in order to earned "visas" and therefore survive.

Compared to Squid Game, you will find this tv show a lot more gory and mature. Not taking out the fact that Squid Game is a very addictive and entertaining serie, Alice in Borderland takes the horror factor to another level. It's asian horror in it's best glory.

Se gostam do género "jogos" no terror, esta série é definitivamente um must. E tenho quase a certeza de que vão ver tudo de uma só vez, num só dia. Tem uma temporada, mas com a temporada 2 prestes a sair, com 8 episódios, cada um com aproximadamente 50 minutos. É uma série da Netflix.

Ao contrário dos outros, este é um drama japonês, por isso esperem muito sangue e entranhas. Baseado num mangá, mostra a história de Arisu [Alice] que de repente encontra-se preso numa versão vazia de Tóquio. Juntamente com os seus amigos/aliados, ele é obrigado a competir em diversos jogos perigosos para que ganhe "visas" e consequentemente manter-se vivo.

Comparado com o Squid Game, irão achar esta série muito mais sangrenta e madura. Não tirando do Squid Game o facto de ser super viciante e que entretém, Alice in Borderland põe o terror noutra escala. É terror asiático no seu melhor.

Goedam - Anthology Horror

Another show from Netflix, Goedam is an anthology show that counts with 8 episodes, all in one season. With a tittle that translates into "urban ghost story", each episode with less than 10 minutes - one has 15 minutes -, centers in different urban legends.

I was pretty surprised with this one. They utilize their small time very well, making it scary, interesting and not lacking story. Also I enjoyed that even though is an anthology and you can see them randomly, they do have things connecting the episodes, for example mentioning characters. Also, it does not use jumpscares to be scary, the episodes tend more for the psychological horror.

As I said, each story is based on an urban legend, usually asian - heavy on korean and japanese, but sometimes just creepy stories. From all the eight episodes, my favourite episodes are (1) Dimension, (2) Crack and (3) Birth.

Outra série da Netflix, Goedam é uma antologia que contém 8 episódios, todos numa temporada. Com um título que se traduz para "história de fantasmas urbanos", cada episódio com menos de 10 minutos - um tem 15 minutos - centra-se em várias lendas urbanas.

Fiquei bastante surpresa com esta série. Utilizaram muito bem o pouco tempo, tornando o episódio assustador, interessante e sem falta de história. Também gostei que, embora seja uma antologia e dê para ver aleatoriamente, existem coisas a conectar os episódios entre si, por exemplo, mencionando personagens. Além disso, não usa sustos para ser assustador, os episódios tendem mais para o terror psicológico.

Como eu disse, cada história é baseada numa lenda urbana, geralmente asiática - sendo mais coreana e japonesa, mas às vezes são apenas histórias assustadoras. Dos oito episódios, os meus favoritos são (1) Dimension, (2) Crack e (3) Birth.

 Y2k in the same month as halloween doesn’t necessarily go together. I see it, but it’s a bit funny. I did not do a spooky 2000s look, just a basic one. And actually it's a bit too summery for this time right now. I know it's rainning a lot here in Portugal and this outfit does not go with this weather, whatsoever, but bear with me, this was shot and thought of in another time. 

Talking about the 2000s, it reminds me so much of my childhood, since I'm a 2000s baby, and my sister wore all those trends, so I'm very accquainted to them. I don’t necessarily like it, honestly, but they are coming back. Y2k is characterized by low-rise jeans, couture tracksuits, platform sandals, fur items and baby loose tops.

Y2k no mesmo mês que o Halloween não fica necessariamente bem. Consigo ver, mas é engraçado. Eu não fiz um visual dos anos 2000 assustador, apenas um básico. E que por acaso é demasiado verão para agora. Eu sei que está a chover imenso aqui em Portugal e que este outfit não fica muito bem, nem lá perto, mas fiquem comigo, isto foi planeado e fotografado noutro tempo.

Falando sobre os anos 2000, relembra-me tanto a minha infância, visto que sou um bebé de 2000 e porque a minha irmã usou todas estas modas, por isso estou familiarizada com estas peças. Eu não gosto muito, para ser sincera, mas está a voltar. A moda Y2k é caracterizada pelas calças de ganga de cintura baixa, pelos fatos de treino de marca, pelas sandálias com plataforma, pelos itens com pelo e pelas blusas largas bebés.

I'm going to be honest, my jeans and top are all old-school. Both were from my sister from that exact time. Even though I give you modern alternatives, I'm pretty sure you can find similar pieces in thrift stores. To make the look a bit more warm you can put on a one button cardigan.

As you can see it's a very simple look, but for the modern days it has a lot of personality. It's honestly just some straight low-rise jeans, which in my case, I chose ones more fun with some patches and designs in pink; then a loose, patterned top, in the colour blue to give tribute to the iconic blue eyeshadow; and I finalized with some white transparent sandals, so it doesn't take the shine out of the characteristics pieces.

The hit point here is definitely the show of the lower belly and belly bottom.

Vou ser honesta, as minhas calças de ganga e a minha blusa são antigas. Ambas foram da minha irmã mesma daquela época. Mesmo eu vos dando alternativas modernas, é muito provável encontrarem peças semelhantes nas lojas em segunda mão. Para tornar o visual mais quente, podem usar um casaquinho de um botão.

Como podem ver, é um look muito simples, mas atualmente reflete grande personalidade. É simplesmente umas calças de ganga de cintura baixa, que no meu caso têm alguns remendos e desenhos em cor-de-rosa; depois um top fluido padronizado na cor azul para dar tributo à icónica sombra azul; e para finalizar umas sandálias brancas e transparentes, para não tirar o brilho do que é realmente importante.

A estrela do outfit é definitivamente a exposição da barriguinha e do umbigo.

Last sunday, on October 9th, I completed one of my goals for this year: run an half-marathon. And I couldn’t be more happy with it.

If you have been following me, specially my fitness journey, you would know that I have been running and taking it a bit seriously. There is why my goal was to be able to run the 21.1km, since I have already done 10km and less. I started practicing during quarantine, around a year and half ago, as a way to go outside. But only after 2 months, when I saw that I was good at it and above all I really enjoy it, I started taking it seriously and really introducing it into my workout programs.

No domingo passado, a 9 de outubro, eu completei um dos meus objetivos deste ano: correr uma meia-maratona. E não podia estar mais feliz.

Se me têm andado a seguir, especialmente a minha jornada de fitness, sabem que eu comecei a correr e que tenho levado isso a sério. E é por isso que o meu objetivo era conseguir correr os 21.1km, uma vez que já tinha corrido 10km e menos. Eu comecei a praticar durante a quarentena, acerca de um ano e meio, como uma maneira de sair fora de casa. Mas apenas dois meses depois, quando me apercebi que até era boa e mais do que tudo tirava bastante proveito, é que comecei a levar a sério e a introduzi a corrida nos meus programas de treino.

At the end of last year I was pretty comfortable running the 10km, which corresponds to the mini-marathon, and I had a run scheduled, so for the next year, 2022, the next step to go to were the half-marathon. I started in the beginning of the year with small goals, like I wanted to be able to run 15km by April. And I did it. Then I kinda fell out of it because of all the university projects that I had, and I even thought that I wasn’t going to do it because I was not training enough. 

It was after my summer holidays in Chiclana, that I said to myself, “no, I’m going to do it, and now that I’m free I can really focus hard”. And for the next 8 weeks I put all my energy to it and followed a run program diligently (from Marathon Handbook). Not gonna lie by the end I started to be more lazy and my life had some more turbulence. But how some people say it’s best to undertrain than to overtrain.

No final do ano passado, já me sentia bastante confortável a correr os 10km, o que corresponde à mini-maratona, e já tinha uma corrida marcada, por isso para o próximo ano, 2022, o próximo passo era a meia-maratona. Eu comecei o ano com pequenos objetivos, sendo um deles conseguir correr 15km até abril. E corri mesmo. Depois deixei a corrida um pouco de parte, devido a todos os trabalhos da universidade, e cheguei mesmo a pensar que não iria conseguir concretizar os 21km porque não estava a treinar o suficiente.

Foi a seguir às férias de verão em Chiclana que eu disse a mim mesma "não, eu vou fazê-lo, e agora que estou livre posso focar-me realmente". E nas 8 semanas seguintes eu pus toda a minha energia em treinar e seguir um programa diligentemente (do Marathon Handbook). Não vou mentir que mais para o fim fiquei um pouco preguiçosa e a minha vida também teve mais turbulência. Mas como algumas pessoas dizem é melhor treinar menos do que treinar em demasia.

So on October 9th I completed the Luso Half-Marathon, here in Portugal, with a time of 1:54:38, which rounds to 5:26min/km. My best of all time. It was hard by the end of it, kilometer 18 forward, but overall I felt pretty good. Not going to hide the fact that I went with my dad and since he runs a lot more than me he pushed me a lot and helped me during the water points (where they give you water, power raid, gel, fruit, etc).

In terms of my 2 months training it consisted of 4 runs a week: two medium runs, usually 8km; one easy run, 4km; and one long run, started at 10km and ended by 18km. During my training I never did 21km, but I felt ready for it actually. On top of that I kept my usual pilates workouts 6 times a week.

Então a 9 de outubro eu completei a Luso Meia-Maratona, aqui em Portugal, com um tempo de 1:54:38, o que arredonda para os 5:26min/km. O meu melhor tempo de sempre. Foi difícil no final, a partir do quilómetro 18, mas no geral senti-me bem. Não vou esconder o facto de que fui com o meu pai e sendo que ele corre mais do que eu, motivou-me a fazer melhor e ajudou-me mesmo nos pontos de água (onde dão água, power raid, gel, fruta, etc).

Em termos dos dois meses de treino, consistiu em 4 corridas por semana: duas corridas médias, usualmente 8km; uma corrida fácil, 4km; e uma corrida longa, que começou nos 10km e acabou nos 18km. Durante o meu treino, eu nunca fiz 21km, mas senti-me preparada na mesma. Em cima disto tudo, eu mantive os meus treinos de pilates 6 vezes por semana.

It was very hard to keep up with all it, and if I had university I probably wouldn’t be able to, but with passion you can do it all. And that’s the best advice I have for you. On top of all the training you have to do, and be realistic and consistent with your goals and run, to become better, you only be able to up yourself if you really like what you’re doing: running. You have to take joy from all the sweat and heart racing and after pain to be able to continue. I’m not saying you have to want it everyday, some days that I was supposed to run I didn’t feel like it, but or you push forward because the feeling after feels good or you just accept it that today is not the day, which is important too. Which cannot happen is feel like a chore every single time.

Finally, if you can find a buddy that’s even better. At least have family and friends to motivate you, even if they don’t run with you. I’m very grateful for all my family and friends. And a big thank you to my dad that ran with me and motivates me every single time, to his friend that pushed me a little more during the run, and to my sister and my friends that went to the finish line to see me pass it.

Foi desafiador conseguir fazer tudo, e se tivesse ainda universidade provavelmente não conseguiria de todo, mas com paixão tudo se faz. E este é o melhor conselho que vos posso dar. Por cima de todo o treino que têm de fazer, e ser-se realista e consistente com os objetivos e com a corrida, para ficar melhor, apenas serão realmente capazes de melhorar-se se gostarem do que estão a fazer: correr. Têm de tirar felicidade de todo aquele suor e coração acelerado e da dor posterior para conseguirem continuar. Não estou a dizer que têm de querer isso todos os dias, alguns dias que é suposto eu correr também não me apetece, mas ou eu resisto porque eu gosto do sentimento que tenho depois da corrida ou apenas aceito que hoje não é o dia, e isso é o mais importante. O que não pode acontecer é sentir que a corrida é uma tarefa sempre que o vais fazer.

Finalmente, se conseguir arranjar alguém para correr convosco ainda melhor. Pelo menos, ter família e amigos que vos apoiam, mesmo que não corram com vocês. Eu estou muito grata para com a minha família e amigos. E um grande obrigado para o meu pai que correu comigo que me continua a motivar sempre, para o amigo dele que me puxou a correr mais um pouco na meia-maratona, e à minha irmã e amigos que estavam lá para me ver cortar a meta.

 It’s Stray Kids comeback season. To no surprise, I had to do something to celebrate this new step in their career. Not to mention that they already won 3 music show trophies with this new song, CASE 143.

It was actually quite easy to come up with an idea for a look that represented this album and tittle track MV. I would describe this new music video as an aggressive cute love song. Therefore my outfit and style had to give that vibe. Which is right up my style: mix of black and colours, patterns but also minimal. Dark girl meets colour. That is the name of the look.

Estamos na época em que os Stray Kids lançam um novo álbum e nova música. Para surpresa nenhuma, eu tinha de fazer algo para celebrar este novo passo na carreira deles. Para não mencionar que eles já ganharam 3 prémios com a nova música, CASE 143.

Foi fácil ter a ideia para o visual que representasse este álbum e o vídeo da música principal. Descreveria como uma música de amor fofa agressiva. Por isso, o outfit e o estilo tinham de mostrar isso. O que é bem o meu estilo: misturar pretos com cores, padrões com o simples. Rapariga misteriosa encontra cor. Seria o nome do visual.

I should be humble, but I think this outfit is awesome. It stands out but it has a gorgeous elegant hint to it. Probably because of the satin corset. 

In this specific outfit I tried to play with the colours pink, orange and black, for the bad ass cute aesthetic. And also at the same time that I used platform shoes, I did a cute hairstyle and makeup. All of it to give a contrast between cute and edgy. Since Stray Kids, in this music video, do the same: they mix their rock, dark aura with a cute set up.

I also took inspiration from their music shows outfits. Therefore, I chose a light pink stripe shirt, because they use light pink most of the time, and on top a bright orange corset since in the MV the background has very punchy colours. Oh and a secret, the corset part is actually a dress that I tucked into my jeans. Because Stray Kids love black clothing I had to mix that in the pants and make it a bit grunge.

For the makeup, the inspiration came soly from the heart characters. A big pink one, because he is the main one, and some small hearts of different colours to represent the rest of them.

Eu devia ser humilde, mas eu acho que este visual está muito bom. Ele destaca-se, mas tem na mesma um toque elegante bonito. Provavelmente por causa do espartilho de cetim.

Neste look específico tentei brincar com as cores rosa, laranja e preto, para o estético fofinho. E também, ao mesmo tempo que usei sapatos com plataforma, fiz um penteado feminino e uma maquilhagem fofa. Tudo isso para dar um contraste entre fofo e ousado. Já que os Stray Kids, neste videoclipe, fazem o mesmo: misturam a sua aura rock, sombria, com um set adorável.

Eu também me inspirei nas roupas que eles usam nos programas de música. Por isso, escolhi uma camisa de riscas rosa-clara, porque eles usam rosa-bebé na maioria das vezes, e por cima um espartilho laranja brilhante já que no videoclipe o fundo tem cores bem fortes. Ah, e um segredo, a parte do espartilho é na verdade um vestido que eu pus para dentro das calças de ganga. Como os Stray Kids adoram roupas pretas, tive que misturar isso nas calças e torná-lo um pouco grunge.

Para a maquilhagem, a inspiração veio apenas dos personagens coração. Um rosa grande, porque ele é o principal, e alguns pequenos corações de cores diferentes para representar os restantes.

Last wednesday, Rupi Kaur, with her live show, came to Portugal to recite some of her poems. Or at least that was what I thought. Because, in reality, she gave us a two hour long amazing show (spoilers).

If you don't know who Rupi Kaur is, well then, she is a poet, artist and performer. She has now 4 books published: milk and honey, the sun and her flowers, home body, and recently Healing Through Words. Rupi's poems touchs on topics like love, trauma, healing, femininity and migration.

I was so excited to see her. I have now 2 out of the 4 books and I love both. It's the simplicity of the words mixed in metaphoric phrases. If you're a women you will definitely resemble in it. Or at least in a couple of poems of her. It's so beautiful and her illustrations do some much as well.

Na quarta-feira passada, a Rupi Kaur, com a sua turné, veio a Portugal para recitar alguns dos seus poemas. Ou pelo menos era o que eu achava. Porque, na realidade, ela deu-nos um espetáculo fenomenal de duas horas (spoilers).

Se não sabem quem é a Rupi Kaur, bem, ela é uma poeta, artista e performer. Atualmente ela tem 4 livros publicados: milk and honey, the sun and her flowers, home body, e recentemente Healing Through Words. Os poemas da Rupi tocam em tópicos como o amor, trauma, melhoramento, feminismo e migração.

Eu estava muito entusiasmada para vê-la. Eu tenho 2 dos 4 livros dela e adoro ambos. É a simplicidade das palavras misturadas em frases metafóricas. Se são mulheres vão definitivamente rever-se no trabalho. Ou pelo menos num grupo de poemas. É tão bonito e as suas ilustrações fazem tanto.

Talking about the show, it was really a perfomance of poetry, not really a declamation. Which made everything more memorable. I did cry. I did laugh. And above that I did think. But all in a peaceful and healthy and supportive space.

She talked about her stories, about things that happened to her. Obviously she recited poems, some improvised, some in silence, others with the magic of sounds. But she also gave her audience space to talk freely and give opinion. She didn't want snaps. She wanted applauses, screams, words.

Falando sobre o espetáculo, foi mesmo uma performance de poesia, não uma declamação. O que tornou tudo mais memorável. Eu chorei. Eu ri. E mais do que tudo eu pensei. Mas tudo num espaço pacífico, saudável e solidário.

Ela contou algumas histórias, sobre coisas que aconteceram com ela. Obviamente ela recitou poemas, alguns improvisados, alguns em silêncio, outros com a magia dos sons. Mas ela também deu à audiência espaço para falar livremente e dar a sua opinião. Ela não queria estalos de dedos. Ela queria aplausos, gritos, palavras.

What was most incredible about her show, was that you can totally feel that she liked what she was doing, she created an atmosphere for us and particularly for us in specific. Because at a certain point in the show she admitted that she was modifying and changing the perfomance according to the energy that we provided to her. She even asked for her book, milk and honey, because she really wanted to recite one of its poems, but because it was not planned she didn't have it written anywhere and didn't remember out of her head.

It was simply marvellous. I felt so in me. I went alone, but I never felt like it. I was with everyone. But specially I was within me. It was almost like an inner experience.

O mais incrível do seu espetáculo foi que dava para sentir totalmente que ela gosta do que faz, ela criou uma atmosfera para nós e em particular para o seu público português. Porque a certo momento ela admite que mudou e trocou uma parte da sua performance de acordo com a energia que estava a sentir por parte de nós. Ela até pediu o seu livro, leite e mel, porque queria muito recitar um dos seus poemas, mas visto que não estava planeado, ela não tinha escrito em lado nenhum e também não o sabia de cor. 

Foi simplesmente maravilhoso. Eu senti-me tão em mim. Estava sozinha, mas não me senti só. Estava com todos. Mas especialmente dentro de mim. Foi quase como uma experiência de introspeção.

Talking about my outfit. I'm very proud of it. Is very artistic, with earthy tones, not gonna lie a bit original. I would describe it has literature student meets edgy meets casual. In warm tones. I combined the vibes I was feeling from Rupi Kaur and her work and my own style. Which apparently means brown pants, platform shoes, a mesh top with and ribbed top on top and a pink stripe shirt.

O que aparentemente quer dizer calças castanhas, sapatos com plataforma, manga comprida mesh e uma blusa canelada e uma camisa de riscas rosa.
